Frustrations are mounting among Dungeness crab harvesters on the coast of Oregon, as they say they've not yet been able to get an agreed-upon dock price from their biggest buyer, Pacific Seafood Group, NBC 16 KMTR, a television station based in Eugene, Oregon, reports.
The season was supposed to kick off on Wednesday (Dec. 16) in the US state, but the boats were still tied to the docks as a result.
"We're kind of sitting here with our hands tied behind our back. We've got really no options," Rex Leach, owner of the fishing vessel, Ms. Julie, is quoted as saying.
"One being Bornstein Seafood out of Astoria and one being Hallmark Fisheries right here in Charleston," Leach said. "They have both spit out a $2.50 (per pound) offer."
Leach said the crabbers have been trying for two-and-a-half weeks unsuccessfully to get a price from Pacific, which reportedly declined to comment for the article.
