The recent additions of raw material shrimp prices from Ecuador and Indonesia to the Undercurrent News data portal allow users to compare costs from five origins in dollars.
Our portal allows premium subscribers to compare farmgate prices for various sizes of vannamei shrimp from Ecuador, China, India, Indonesia and Thailand. The costs from Ecuador are already in dollars, with the others converted from local currencies.
The data shows Ecuador's vannamei shrimp continues to be the world's cheapest, dropping as prices from other major suppliers remain steady. When converted to dollars, shrimp from India, Indonesia and Thailand all remain more expensive than Ecuador's.
Chinese raw material is falling but remains by far the world's most expensive shrimp. Even with this price decline, the level from Ecuador is more than half that of China, data on the prices portal shows.
