All systems are go for a new seafood restaurant opening in Dauphin County.
Seafood Saturday is slated to join the Colonial Park Mall in Lower Paxton Township around Dec. 1 at the former Gertrude Hawk Chocolates.
Owner Duane Mallard said the idea for Seafood Saturday grew out of his love for seafood.
“It started off where I was just making food on Saturdays and the demand got high. Once the demand got high, I started doing it pretty much every day,” he said.
Previously, Mallard subleased space at the former PM Bistro & Lounge on State Street in Harrisburg where for about four months he operated Seafood Saturday in 2017. However, he was forced to close when the facility was shut down as the result of a shooting at the bistro.
Now, Mallard, who also owns Carpets Are Us in Harrisburg, said he’s excited about operating in the comfort of the mall where it’s a safer environment and he can attract a different clientele.
For now, Mallard said plans are fluid as he anticipates Pa. Gov. Tom Wolf could soon announce new business restrictions as cases of COVID-19 climb in Pennsylvania.
“You go and spend $5,000-something on inventory and just to turn around and we get shut down. Right now, is not really the time to take a hit,” he said.
The menu includes a seafood platter with two clusters of crab legs, red potatoes, sauteed shrimp and corn on the cop over a bed of Spanish rice for $24.99. Otherwise the menu will be limited to a handful of items including chicken and shrimp alfredo and crab cake sandwiches, as well as desserts like strawberry shortcake cupcakes.
Drink choices will cover bottled water and Kool-Aid and possibly a diet soda.
The restaurant will have limited indoor seating and focus mainly on takeout orders. It will be open 11 a.m.-7 p.m., daily.
