As the 2020 election draws closer, Never Trumpers are gearing up to persuade Republicans unhappy with President Trump's leadership to vote blue.
One voter, Jack Spielman of Michigan, was one of almost 100 voters to express their story for the Republican Voters Against Trump campaign this week.
"I'll vote for a tuna fish sandwich before I vote for Donald Trump again," Spielman said.
The Army veteran said he believes Trump has failed the country on foreign policy and handling the coronavirus pandemic. He made the video message to pay back Democrats who helped elect President Ronald Reagan in the 1980s, he said in an interview with CNN.
"Just as what happened with the Reagan Democrats, now is the Republicans' turn to become Republican Democrats, or Biden Republicans, to kind of return the favor, to say the nation needs us right now to get on a corrective course," Spielman said.
The RVAT is a project of Defending Democracy Together, an organization started by lifelong conservatives and Republicans to defend values viewed under threat such as rule of law, free trade, and expanding legal immigration. The RVAT aims to help conservatives and others uncomfortable with Trump's presidency to share their stories and convince others to turn away from him in November.
"These are Republicans, former Republicans, conservatives, and former Trump voters who can’t support Trump for president this fall," the group said on its website.
