As Animal Crossing: New Horizons grows throughout the year with seasons and updates, more creatures come crawling out of the woodwork like the red king crab. This scuttling arthropod from the underbelly of the sea was previously featured in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. It was only a matter of time before it showed up in Animal Crossing's newest edition.
As such, to catch the red king crab, it will take a similar path to how the previous game would have players catch the beast, but the newest update to Animal Crossing has changed it up a bit. Players, with the new summer update, can now swim in any water, in or around the island. As such, this has allowed players a completely new set of creatures and things to find while snorkeling, like the red king crab.
How to Catch a Red King Crab
Fetching 8,000 bells at the Nook & Cranny, this royal crustacean is well worth diving in for. Like every other creature found in Animal Crossing, this guy is a seasonal catch. Not yet available to players, the red king crab is around from November to March for Northern Hemisphere players. Giving players plenty of time to work on their snorkeling form.
This guy will take some effort and form as he is one of the fastest creatures that can be caught while snorkeling. Measuring in at 22 inches and having up to a five-foot leg span it's no wonder that he has a large shadow for diving and is not easily outmatched in speed. As such, it may take players a couple of times to encounter this royal subject before getting the chance to speak in his court. Despite being hard to catch, the red king crab is around all hours of the day, so players are sure to have several encounters. As he is a spring and winter catch, players may not want to stay out in the surf for long trying to catch him.
When donated to Blather's museum, he will tell you about the measurements and weight of this 20 lb. nobility and how the creature is thought to be more related to hermit crabs due to the number of legs they possess. As this crab is not yet available to players in the Northern Hemisphere, most of this information is based on the previous game, Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Although this is the case, it is still coming to players in the upcoming months. Critterpedia completionists beware.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available on Nintendo Switch.
