The Indian aqua feed arm of Thailand’s Charoen Pophkand Foods has lowered prices for shrimp feed in response to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
Prices for CPF (India) Private Limited’s feed for vannamei and monodon species of shrimp have been reduced by INR 1.00-INR 1.20 per kilogram ($0.013-$0.016/kg), the firm said in an open letter to dealers dated July 15.
On July 16, another Indian feed maker, Growel Feeds, followed suit by lowering its vannamei and monodon shrimp feed prices by INR 1.00-INR 1.28/kg.
“We hope that this [reduction] will encourage the farmers and dealers to overcome the present crisis,” said CPF India’s vice president Amnart Langdet.
“[It’s a] welcome move,” said Durai Murugan, owner at Sea Gem Aqua farms. “Main player Avanti [Feeds] needs to do the same.”
