Gollott opened Cap’n Gollott Seafood in 1969, which grew to be one of the largest oyster processing companies on the Gulf Coast. He served as president of Gollott’s Oil Dock & Ice House, Inc., and vice president of Golden Gulf Coast Pkg Co., Inc, working alongside his son and brother as partners.

He was a governor appointee to the CMR in 2004 and represented commercial seafood processors until March of this year.

Department of Marine Resources executive director Joe Spraggins said Gollott will be missed.

“Commissioner Gollott was a leader in the shrimp industry and his vast knowledge helped Mississippi seafood earn worldwide recognition for its quality,” Spraggins said. “He will be greatly missed and his contributions to the commission and our agency will leave a lasting impression on all of us.”

Gollott was a lifelong resident of the Coast and a founding member of the Southern Shrimp Alliance. He also was a board member of the American Shrimp Processors Association.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, sons Richie and Anthony and daughter Shelly, their spouses and grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Northside Assembly of God Church in Biloxi. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. at the church.
