Jumbo Shrimp Games Are Mask-Free, Back to Full Capacity Next Month - WJCT NEWS

The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp are returning to full capacity.

Jacksonville's Minor League Baseball team announced Monday it will return 121 Financial Ballpark to its full 10,000-seat capacity starting with the team’s June 8 game against the Norfolk Tides. The park is currently at 45% capacity because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The team also struck its mask requirement, effective immediately. The CDC changed its COVD-19 guidelines this month to no longer recommend fully vaccinated people wear masks or socially distance in most situations.

The team recommends unvaccinated people wear masks in the ballpark but will not require it. Although it's not impossible for people to transmit coronavirus outdoors, it is considered much safer than congregating indoors, especially in poorly ventilated areas.

“We are all excited to bring this sense of normalcy back to our fans as we safely reopen 121 Financial Ballpark to full capacity,” said Jumbo Shrimp GM Harold Craw in an email to WJCT News.

Tickets made available because of the capacity expansion will go on sale Wednesday at 10 a.m. on the Jax Shrimp website.
