The Mighty Crab going in at old Furr's Fresh Buffet - Times Record

jumi.indah.link

A wave of seafood is coming to Fort Smith.

In addition to the recent news of Hook & Reel going in the old Logan's Roadhouse, a sign was recently put up at the former Furr's Fresh Buffet on Rogers Avenue that announces it would become The Mighty Crab.

No remodeling plans have been filed with the Fort Smith Building Safety Division as of Monday for the former Furr's Fresh Buffet at 5707 Rogers Ave.

Mighty Crab restaurants can currently be found at 1817 S. University Ave. in Little Rock and 2703 Lakewood Village Drive in North Little Rock. There are also locations in Texarkana, Texas, and Monroe, Louisiana.

Dining out: Here are five restaurants Fort Smith residents would like to have

Those Mighty Crab restaurants are open every day from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. with extended hours to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Menu items and prices at The Mighty Crab include a $13 plate of 10 fried oysters and a $6 half-pound plate of boiled crawfish. A pound of king crab legs goes for about $35 and two 12-ounce lobster tails are about $28 at those other Mighty Crab restaurants. The seafood platters are served with corn and potatoes. They also offer tilapia, catfish, and fresh oysters.

The menu allows customers to make up their own seafood combo with a choice of spice level, and spices – Cajun, lemon pepper, garlic butter and "juicy special" with all three.

Daily specials at the Mighty Crab include an assortment of shrimp, lobster, crab and mussels.

Seafood plates at The Mighty Crab include a make-your-own seafood compo with shrimp, crab legs and crawfish served with corn and potatoes. A Mighty Crab restaurant was recently announced to be moving into the former Furr's Fresh Buffet, 5707 Rogers Ave., in Fort Smith.

The Furr's closure

Vitanonva Brands, the parent company to Furr's Fresh Buffett, announced a temporary closure of the restaurants in March 2020 in response to COVID-19. The Fort Smith Furr's did not reopen.

The company has worked to rebrand their Furr's restaurants as Furr’s All You Can Eat Marketplaces that would also serve as "ghost kitchens" for other concepts owned by Vitanova Brands.

Fort Smith Seafood

A few other seafood restaurants in the Fort Smith area include:

Fish City Grill, 7001 Phoenix Ave., open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

• AJ's Oyster House, 115 N. 10th St., open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday-Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday-Saturday. Closed Sunday and Monday.

• Red Lobster, 7401 Rogers Ave., open 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday, and 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

• Sam's Southern Eatery, 1813 Grand Ave., open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 12-7 p.m. Sunday.

Walk-Ons opening soon

Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux is in the process of training staff for an opening soon at 4306 Phoenix Ave. The diverse menu features unique twists on game-day staples and upscale takes on Louisiana mainstays, such as crawfish etouffee, duck and andouille gumbo and Krispy Kreme donut bread pudding.

Walk-On's held an orientation day on March 20 and announced on its Facebook page that day they plan to open March 29 with chances to try them out earlier at a "mock shift."
