PACIFIC COUNTY — The commercial crab fishing season is finally well underway after fishermen started delivering their first offloads of the season in Pacific County ports on Feb. 16.
Local ports in Chinook, Ilwaco and Nahcotta have been active in recent days with commercial fishermen and processors unloading catch and restocking vessels to return to sea.
Unfavorable ocean conditions offshore delayed the opening day deliveries for several bigger vessels last week, however some vessels crabbing closer to shore began arriving on local docks late Tuesday afternoon.
Fishermen reported the crabbing has been ‘fair’ so far.
