FLINT TWP, MI — Cindy Wang and her family saw something was missing in the restaurant scene in the Flint area, so they’re filling the gap with seafood and more.

The Tangy Crab - Cajun Seafood and Bar, 3366 Corunna Road, in Flint Township, is slated to open by early February.

The eatery will feature chicken wings, fish, po’boy sandwiches, shrimp and of course crab boils. The boils are served in an oven bag with the option of lobster tails, snow crab legs, king crab legs, mussels, shrimp and scallops topped with the restaurant’s blend of spices and seasonings. The boils range from $20-30.

The restaurant, a neighbor to Kroger and Northgate, a warehousing, packaging and distribution company, will also have a full bar.

Wang’s parents who reside in Florida co-own the restaurant, and the other newly opened Tangy Crab restaurant located in Lansing with David Wang’s parents, who live in Michigan. Wang and Yang are cousins and their parents are siblings.

The Lansing location is operated by Yang, and Wang operates the Flint Township location.

“They (Wang and Yang’s parents) came from the south, around Florida and New Orleans and they see this kind of seafood everywhere, and they kind of figured out the ingredients of what they do and focused on bringing good seafood to this place,” Wang said.

Wang emphasized that the seafood is fresh and will come whole, so customers will have to do the work deshelling their food to get to the good stuff.

“The seafood place is one of those places where you come with your family and then you get down and dirty with yours and we’ll give you gloves, but it’s kind of like you work for your seafood,” Wang said.

Wang describes the setting of the restaurant as a chill-nautical vibe.

To fully commit to running the business, Wang moved from Florida to the Flint area a few months ago. She admits she’s still not used to the cold northern winter and often has to double up on clothing.

Plans to hire people to help run the business are uncertain as the order put in place by Michigan Department of Health and Human Services bans indoor dining.

If things change before then, Wang plans to have indoor dining, she said. If not, the plan will be to use the resources from the Lansing location to operate it.

The planned hours of operation are 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
