There's cracking good news for local seafoodies: Dungeness crab is available at Fisherman's Market again.
Oregon's Dungeness crab commercial season was delayed while processors and fisherman haggled over pricing. The two groups came to an agreement Friday.
That means Dungeness crab are back on the menu and up for sale at the Fisherman's Market, 830 W. Seventh Ave. in Eugene. The market and restaurant had pots at full boil Monday afternoon with cooked crab available later in the evening.
The prized first catch, which went on sale Monday, came from the Newport fishing vessel Taylor Brooks, the Fisherman's Market announced in a news release.
The crab is brought from boat to the Fisherman's Market by an F-350 pickup powered by recycled veggie oil from the market’s fish and chips fryers.
Ryan Rogers, a longtime commercial fisherman who owns the market, describes Dungeness crab as "the tastiest on the market."
"We always love supplying our community with the best local, sustainable seafood available," Rogers said in a statement. "It’s because of our relationships with local fishers that we are able to continue to do so, and we are thankful to each of them.”
