Name: My name is Karen Cody and my pen name is A.G. Vlahos, in honor of my daughter Anna Grace, for whom the book was written.

City in which you reside: I currently live in Kensington, Md., but grew up in Washington County.

Day job: I am a CPA and work for the government in public safety. Last year, I embarked on a new adventure of writing my first children's book.

Book title: "Bella the Blue Crab"

Genre: Children's book

Synopsis: Bella the Blue Crab is a wonderful story of a brave little she-crab who helps save the Chesapeake Bay. Bella is a positive role model who enjoys helping her fellow sea creatures with acts of kindness and bravery. Bella's story comes alive through the beautifully animated pictures of the Chesapeake Bay, where the Maryland blue crab is celebrated and enjoyed! "Bella the Blue Crab" recently hit the #1 Amazon Best Selling Children's Ebook in two children's categories last month, and was the recipient of the Readers' Favorite 5-Star Review in every category.

Publisher: Self-published on Amazon

Price: $11.99 for the paperback an $3.99 for the Ebook

Where can readers purchase your book?

Both the paperback book and Ebook can be purchased on Amazon, and the paperback is also being sold at beach resort stores including Tidepool Toys & Games in Fenwick Island, Del., and Bethany Beach, Del. The book can also be purchased directly through the author, and my website: Bellabluecrab.com

What inspired Bella the Blue Crab? I was raised  with a special fondness for the Eastern Shore. Countless summers were spent visiting the coastal towns along the Chesapeake Bay. "Bella the Blue Crab" is a tribute to the iconic Maryland blue crab and pays homage to the towns where the Chesapeake Bay blue crab is celebrated and enjoyed. This book is dedicated to, and inspired by, Anna Grace.

How does the book help children understand the environmental pressures facing the Chesapeake Bay?

The story of "Bella the Blue Crab" showcases a 'sea song' written collaboratively with my 5-year-old daughter. The Sea Song is an adorable nursery rhyme that Bella sings about cleaning the Chesapeake Bay, so that we may continue to enjoy one of Maryland's most beautiful natural resources and make a brighter day.

What do you hope young readers will learn from reading your book?

"Bella the Blue Crab" personifies the qualities of my beloved daughter — kindness, bravery, positivity and an innate desire to help others. I am hopeful that the character of Bella will inspire young children to become positive role models by helping others through acts of kindness and good deeds. This book also teaches children about the importance of preserving our beautiful natural resource — the Chesapeake Bay, the home of the Maryland Blue Crab.
