DELTA TWP. - Cajun-inspired restaurant The Tangy Crab opened its doors Monday on West Saginaw Highway at the former home of Finley's Grill & Smokehouse, which closed in May.

David Yang, one of the restaurant's owners, said its focus on seafood and traditional southern dishes brings something new to the Lansing area.

The eatery will offer southern boils, made with seafood, spices, sauce, vegetables, sausage and other additions, made to order.

"That’s what makes us stand up in front of everyone else," Yang said.

The boils can include shrimp, mussels, scallops, clams, calamari, crawfish, crab legs and lobster cooked with spices and sauces, including garlic butter, lemon pepper and "The Tangy Special," a mix of different sauces on the menu.

"It really gives the customer the freedom to choose whatever seafood they want," Yang said.

The Tangy Crab will also serve oysters, soft shell crab and po' boys, a traditional sandwich from Louisiana made with fried seafood, a remoulade sauce and French bread.

The 6,000-square-foot space at 7433 W. Saginaw Hwy. was renovated inside and outside over the summer. Yang declined to say how much money owners invested in the upgrades.

"It was quite a bit," he said.

The dining area will seat 200 people, and there is additional seating available on a patio, but Yang said The Tangy Crab opened observing capacity limitations of 50%.

The restaurant will offer dine-in and take out orders for lunch and dinner seven days a week, with safety protocols in place, Yang said.

The Tangy Crab will eventually offer a full bar, Yang said, but the owners are still in the process of applying for a liquor license.

"We're hoping to have that within a few weeks," he said.

The restaurant currently employs about 20 staff, Yang said, but management aims to hire up to 20 more people for full and part-time positions, including servers and bartenders.

Anyone interested in applying can pick up an application at the restaurant or fill one out online at www.thetangycrab.com.

Yang said owners plan to open a second Tangy Crab location in Flint before the end of the year.
