Maria Herbert and her husband, Whalon, didn’t mind the 40-minute commute from Suffolk to the Oceanfront. They planned to give some to a friend and make gumbo with the rest. Maria simmers the shrimp with Andouille sausage, chicken, okra and tomatoes and serves it over rice.
