A rising COVID-19 case count in Ecuador did not put off the construction of an extrusion line by Danish feedmaker BioMar, which will bring its factory there to a capacity of 200,000 metric tons.

According to a press release from the firm, BioMar CEO Carlos Diaz formally opened the line in a recent ceremony. The company built a research and development facility in Ecuador, its Aquaculture Technology Center, in 2018 and previously expanded its factory, which is located in the city of Duran, in 2019.

"BioMar has been producing extruded feeds for over four decades and extruded shrimp feeds since 2014, we currently produce extruded shrimp grower diets in China and Costa Rica and extruded nursery diets in Denmark, France and Chile," Henrik Aarestrup, the company's vice president for Latin America, shrimp and hatchery, said. "We are fast establishing a global footprint in shrimp and this new line brings increased flexibility and
increased choice for our customers as it will expand our capacity for extruded and value-added feed."
