TAZEWELL, Va. (WVVA) - The Crab Orchard Corn Maze & Pisgah Pumpkin Patch, will be open for business beginning this Saturday. This is the seventh year for the Crab Orchard Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch located across highway 460 from the Museum Center.
This year's locomotive - themed design, "Tracks of the Past" features an 1870s locomotive and two freight cars incorporated into the pathways throughout.
Cynthia Farmer, Executive Director of the historic Crab Orchard Museum said she wanted to reflect on the importance of the railroad throughout our Southwestern Virginia history. Two historic Tazewell County restored and repurposed railroad structures remain today.
"It's just really something that the whole family can do together. The children will enjoy it. If you can see this is the design this year. It features an 1870s locomotive, it's all about the railroads and how that industry helped us and how it relates to our Appalachian history. There's 12 checkpoints in the maze with artifacts. So it's not only a fun activity, it's educational," Executive Director of the Historic Crab Orchard Museum, Cynthia Farmer said.
Local farmers, Kenny Compton and John Fisher planted the corn was provided by Jeff Jowers of Southern States.
Organizers ask that you practice social distance while enjoying the fun and to also wear a mask.
