Vince’s Crab House owners Brenda and Vince Meyer are filing a lawsuit against occupying protesters for one million dollars in compensation. Lawsuit is filed because of interference with business operations.
Protesters have caused financial loss. They have erected tents and other structures on public property prohibiting the free passage for pedestrians and trespassed on private property. Protesters have consistently interfered with business operations.
Protestors have stated their sole purpose is to willfully attack to shut down the lawful operations of Vince’s Crab House. The owners and their supporters have stated this goal is a non-starter and will never happen.
Baltimore County has failed to enforce the public safety laws which aids the protesters in achieving their goals. The civil lawsuit accuses Baltimore County of actively endorsing and enabling the protesters to shut down the business operation.
County Executive Olszewski’s order not to enforce public safety laws is a violation of the Takings Clause of the US Constitution.
Protesters have subjected customers of Vince’s Crab House to hate speech, racist name calling, assault and intimidation.
The civil lawsuit alleges that the protesters are in violation of local zoning regulations and a violation of the civil rights of customers and the owners of Vince’s Crab House.
Brenda and Vince Meyer are the owners of the business and have never been accused of making racist remarks. They have been in business for 15 years with about half of their clientele being minorities.
There has never been a complaint or a disagreement. As a gesture of goodwill, the Meyers apologized for their son’s remarks and, voluntarily out of respect for George Floyd, closed the business for 9 days.
Under most circumstances, this would be considered an appropriate and acceptable response. We do not believe in overcharging in America. And we do not provide the death penalty for Jaywalking. To assert that the ultimate goal of the so-called protesters is to shut down this business is something that will never be accepted by the Myer family or the community.
The Meyer Family has decided from the beginning to seek support from the community which we have achieved and use the “Rule of Law” as our main weapon to defend and protect the constitutional rights of the business.
