Their biological name Callinectes sapidus comes from Greek for beautiful swimmer, and Latin for savory, a most apt name. These feisty bottom-dwellers can live for three years, grow to over nine inches, and range from Nova Scotia to Argentina. They feed on just about everything from clams, oysters, dead fish, plant and animal detritus, and even other crabs especially when soft.
