KUWAIT CITY, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait is to start its shrimp season on Aug. 1 after a ban on shrimp fishing which has been in place for seven months, the Kuwait Fishermen's Union announced Tuesday.
Zahir Al-Suwayyan, the union's president, said in a statement that the shrimp fishing season will start on Aug. 1, while expressing hope that this season will witness abundant fishing.
Fishing is one of the difficult professions, but it has a great impact on food security, he said, stressing the need to maintain price stability in the markets.
He called on all fishermen to adhere to the local fishing laws and regulations on protecting fish resources.
Last December, Kuwait's Public Authority for Agriculture and Fish Resources issued a decision prohibiting Kuwaiti fishing vessels from going out to catch shrimp for seven months, from January to July in 2020. Enditem
