‘Fight Crab’ May Deliver The Most Hilariously Stupid Game Of 2020 - Forbes

2020 has been a tire fire, and distractions from its madness are all that many of us have in the daily battle to stay sane. However, despite being certified bangers, the likes of The Last of Us 2 and Ghost of Tsushima aren’t delivering the humor that many of us need.

Luckily, Japanese developer Nussoft–AKA Calappa Games–is making a serious move to restore smiles to countless gamers’ faces. The crustacean-obsessed studio, which has already created the likes of Ace of Seafood and Neo Aquarium, is leaning hard into its expertise to offer us all “a game where you are crab, and you fight crab”.

Never has a game been so perfectly summarized by imperfect grammar–and it looks absolutely hilarious.

Enter the ingeniously titled Fight Crab: a game that lands on PC on July 30, with a Nintendo Switch release also in the works. This 3D action experience allows you to take control of a crab and, well, attack and defeat other giant enemy crabs. You can use your pincers, or opt for one of many weapons: swords, halberds, chainsaws, sawn-off shotguns, and even Raphael-esque twin sai. Because why the hell not?

Boasting top-of-the-line collision detection physics, which “allow for crabs to move powerfully and quickly in this hardcore battle arena”, Fight Crab promises to give you the opportunity to “develop your own crab fighting style” in order to defeat your foes by flipping them onto their backs.

To deliver on its bold claims, Fight Crab offers over 20 crab species–each with its own arm length, weight, and other unique characteristics–and you’re able to duke it out in a range of arenas, from banquet halls with dangerous chandeliers to playrooms with moving, lethal model trains. Never before have the lives and natural threats to the crab been so wonderfully realized.

Alongside training and campaign modes, Fight Crab offers 1v1 and 2v2 battle modes both online and offline. It even goes as far as to use the phrase “crabsolute mayhem” to describe what gamers can expect: further proof that it may not be too late to save us from 2020’s dispiriting grip.

Fight Crab comes to Steam on July 30–over 14 years since the immortal Metal Gear Solid “CRAB BATTLE!” video, ever since which I've dreamt of fighting crustaceans myself. Its price is as yet unconfirmed, but a review most definitely is–expect my verdict soon.
