Dutch customs officials discovered a 493-kilogram package of cocaine stashed within an import of tinned tuna arriving at the port of Rotterdam, reports NL Times.
The package, which had been shipped from Cartagena, Colombia en route to the German city of Kempen, had an estimated street value of €37 million, and has since been destroyed by authorities.
Five days earlier, Rotterdam customs officers had again discovered a package of drugs, this time a shipment of 780kg of cocaine within a container of pineapples sent from Costa Rica. The drugs on that occasion were discovered within a cooling and storage firm in Zuid-Holland, with no arrests.
In total, officials have discovered 18,000 kilograms of cocaine concealed within shipments so far this year, already just over half of the 33,732 kilos discovered at the port in 2019.
